A Woman’s Place UK – write to your MP requesting that women’s voices be heard in evidence-based discussion about the Gender Reassignment Act. Demand these five points, and make it personal.
The passing of a self-declaration law together with removal of Schedule 3 exceptions would see the current delicate balance of rights between ‘sex’ and ‘gender’ in the Equality Act overturned. Those confident that new legislation will not impact women’s rights should not fear discussion; the left must consider the impact of further changing how sex is defined.
Self-ID: It’s not about you. Well, actually, it is. The proposed new law affects a heck of a lot of people. Unlike gay marriage, it reaches far beyond the personal. The government only requested submissions from transgender representatives – ignoring women’s organisations, disability campaigners, HM Prison Services, healthcare providers and others. Yet, without public consultation, it protected male aristocratic succession from trans ID. So it’s all about them …
Women in prison are vulnerable, making up 25% of prisoner self-harm but only 5% of prison population. Most have an extensive history of abuse, suffer disabilities, and are in need of protection. Yet the proposed Gender Identity law reform will allow violent & abusive males to be housed in the female estate, as ‘women’, on demand. We must protest. #safenotsilent @UKMayDay
Lesbian women are having to meet secretly to avoid sexually insistent trans-identified males. Female same-sex orientation angers many ‘lesbian’ transwomen, who soon turn from wheedling to fury at a woman’s rejection of penis. Catherine Drury introduces the ‘Cotton Ceiling’ and laments the pressure on young lesbians to turn trans-male. This is feminism 6.
“Women only” That should be such a final and simple statement. It should mean: only females are allowed access here. It should mean: women, you are safe here. It should mean: no, men, you are not welcome. But the consultation on the Gender Identity Bill in the autumn proposes to
Petition banned! According to 38 degrees it is ‘inappropriate’ to speak up for the rights of women to equal opportunities, privacy, and even a name for our distinctive physiology. Thanks to the many who signed our petition; sorry you were silenced. We will not be made to shut up about ourselves.
Parliament believes it can magically erase biological sex differences with a new sex change law. Hypnotised by the trans community’s charm & sparkle, UK politicians are dancing to a tune that’s causing a huge number of problems in Canada and California, which have similar laws already.
“But what about intersex?” Human sexual dimorphism and the denial of biology. While transgender advocates debate the ever-changing meaning of ‘woman’ and ‘female’, Catherine explains why there is no third sex and intersex conditions don’t disprove the facts of sexual reproduction. This is important – welcome to Feminism 4!
Privilege is relative, but the people with the most of it are male. Catherine Drury looks at what privilege means for women as a class, and what intersectionality means. Should intersectional feminism include men, even if they’ve changed their gender? This is feminism 3!
Jeremy Corbyn’s ‘advancement’ in trans rights would grant legal status as a woman (or man) to anyone who says they are. He’s misinformed about current gender ID law in the UK – and woefully ignorant of the repercussions for women and children. He can’t promote both self-ID and women’s rights, the two are mutually exclusive.
What’s the opposite of trans? You’re no longer a woman. You’re cis So yesterday we started by talking about the concept of gender and how we analyze it as a set of rules imposed on the sexes, controlling behaviour and punishing those who attempt to reject its constraints. The gender
Surely, he said, displaying a concern for trans people I’d never seen him display for women, a transwoman asking for a place in a women’s refuge is a DV victim in need? Trans people deserve support, but here’s the thing: women’s services aren’t coping with demand as it is. They lack money, power and influence. But many figures in the transgender movement are enormously wealthy. Any one of them could fund services for trans professionals to help trans people!
Only about one in five trans people undergo ‘sex reassignment’ surgery. Approx 75% of trans women have a functioning penis. Tara Hudson, the “beautician” who supposedly lived her entire life as a woman, neglected to mention his real profession as a ‘she-male’ (his word) prostitute and sex performer, or that he refers to himself as a bloke. Although he’s a very violent male, Hudson served his time in a prison full of women.
Blonde Canadian blogger Lauren Southern decided to see how easy it is to change gender in Ontario. Answer: ridiculously easy! Watch her video – she’s now legally a man. Coming soon to the UK: It will be a serious CRIME to state a fact instead of somebody else’s fiction. Write to your MP & Maria Miller here.
This brilliant feminist look at economics is a totally accessible page-turner. Who Cooked Adam Smith’s Dinner? lays out the ways women’s living, working bodies are rendered invisible, and examines the powerful drives in capitalism and patriarchy turning us into dead objects to be entered into balance sheets.
All transgender people should have the right to live their lives free from violence & discrimination. In certain circumstances transgender people have needs that differ from those of members of the sex with which they identify. In these circumstances a clash of rights arises. If the proposed changes go ahead, abusive men will be able to access women’s shelters and prisons. Click to learn more.
