Alan Carr doubtless feels he’s being loyal to old friend Justin Lee Collins, who was convicted of domestic abuse. Very often the abuser, the person using violence or emotional abuse to batter their partner, uses friends as part of his armoury. They provide a convenient smokescreen behind which to hide the abuser’s true nature. Women’s Aid reports 2 women a week are murdered by their partners in the UK. Police receive a domestic abuse call every 30 seconds.
Beautiful short film. She will be born female, she will have a girlhood. She can be tough. She can escape stereotypes. She can be comfortable in her own skin. She can break the mould! She can be wise, she can be fast, she can celebrate her body. She can be the best. She can be the leader in her field. She has strength in unity. Her voice is powerful. She will rise up. Our time is coming, are you ready? Don’t erase us. We are women. #weareWOMAN
Created by parents struggling to help their gender-questioning children, Mermaids Transgender was a support group. Now it’s a registered charity, receiving large grants and consulted by the UK Government, the NHS and others. And is still a group of blinkered evangelists. Despite their elevated status, Mermaids have shown themselves incapable of handling facts or seeing wider contexts. Our distressed young people need support, not sterilisation. We explain.
Re-posted from 4thWaveNow: The following guest post, by 4thWaveNow contributor Artemisia, is Part 1 in a series. In this piece, Artemisia investigates a recently reported case of a 7-year-old child in the UK who was removed from the custody of his mother. The court found that the child had been essentially
Class analysis means looking at what generally happens with people who share a unique set of features. This sometimes confuses people. As a feminist, I might say “men oppress women”, then half a dozen people come along to tell me they know men who’ve never oppressed a female – otherwise known as NAMALT for not all men are like that. It completely misses the point of the analysis.
Re-posted from Smashing Gender Change by the admirable Hope “Street Voice” Lye: The ‘Not Guilty’ verdict for Ched Evans in his recent re-trial for rape has left many women angry and rightfully so. This has sent rape trials back 30 years where the defence can use any means to attack the victim
Gender identity is the new black. No other recent movement has spiralled as quickly as that which questions ideas around gender and to the confusion of parents, more and more young people are ‘coming out’ as Gender Fluid, Genderqueer, or any one of the numerous new trans identities. Of course, questioning gender is no bad
On my facebook feed the other night I saw a friend reporting that his two-year-old twins want to be an owl and a sheep respectively. Cue lols and hearts. I clicked on his page; they’d all just been on a half-term trip to a farm. There they were, beaming, with
Re-posted from http://www.aguycalledhelen.com I think that these are really important questions. On the surface they seem quite simple questions but once you start to look at the implications we can start to understand what the real issues might be. The question is about the definition of woman. A good place
Gender sucks. It’s a load of made-up rules about what people must do and what they shouldn’t. It’s based on your biological sex, but it is in no way the same thing. It’s socially enforced through shame: this affects boys/men as well as women and girls, and hits women a
